Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, and Counsellor based in Whitstable and via Skype

My name is Ann-Louise McCarthy and I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Counsellor registered with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). I am also a member of CPJA (Council for Psychoanalytic and Jungian Analysts).

I am a Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor with a Private Practice based in Whitstable which is easily accessible from Herne Bay and Faversham.

I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment where we can explore issues and Psychological pain which may have been present throughout your life, or that may have developed in response to difficult life experiences and relationships. The aim of our work together is to identify, better understand and work through the issues that are impacting negatively on your life, to allow positive change to occur.

I provide one-to-one Psychotherapy with both adults and adolescents, as well as facilitating Psychotherapy groups. One to one therapy can be on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period. Groups are available for time limited periods and presently take place in Whitstable at a satellite venue. If you would like information regarding groups please call or email me and I will be happy to explain how the groups work.

It can be difficult to make the first steps towards starting therapy. You may be unsure what to expect, wonder whether you will feel safe and be uncertain about what will be expected of you in sessions. I am always happy to speak to you and answer any questions you have to allow you to feel comfortable and to give you a sense of what therapy may be like and what to expect. I welcome this opportunity because I want you to feel comfortable so you will take the steps needed to experience therapy.

I have experience in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with :

  • Feeling Overwhelmed
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Panic Attacks
  • Sadness
  • Feeling out of control
  • Feeling Loneliness
  • Depression
  • Addiction
  • Trauma
  • Abuse
  • Interpersonal and relationship difficulties
  • Menopause
  • Mid Life Crisis
  • Eating Disorders
  • Identity issues
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Low self esteem
  • Redundancy
  • Work place issues
  • Anger issues
  • Repetitive physical health problems

as well as other problems and difficulties. I am always willing to discuss the therapy I offer so you are able to make an informed decision whether working with me feels comfortable and appropriate for you.

I attend supervision and Professional Development training on a regular basis, throughout the year, as I believe expanding my knowledge and keeping up to date with current developments in Psychotherapy and mental and emotional health issues is important.

    Location

if you feel it might be helpful to speak to a Psychotherapist or Counsellor about any concern, my Psychotherapy and Counselling practice is based in Whitstable, within easy reach of Herne Bay, Faversham, Canterbury, Swale, Medway and Thanet, as well as being just over an hour from London.

The Psychotherapy and Counselling practice is within a 25 minute walk from Whitstable train station.
Herne Bay is 10 minutes away by car and there are bus links very close to the practice. Faversham is 15 minutes away by car. Canterbury is 20-25 minutes away by car and there are very good bus links close to the practice. Thanet areas are approximately a half hour car journey from the practice.

    Access

The therapy room has disabled access as it is on the ground floor. Access to the building is flat and there is ample parking directly outside or very close to the practice, on the road.

    Skype Psychotherapy

I provide Skype Psychotherapy which is available to clients in any area including outside the U.K. Skype Psychotherapy may be a beneficial option for clients who are unable to attend sessions in person due to work or travel commitments or if illness or disability prevents mobility. It may also be that confidentiality is a particular area of concern in relation to attending sessions. I am happy to discuss the Skype Psychotherapy service and how it would work if you are uncertain about any aspect of the service.

    Let's Talk

I am happy to discuss, without obligation, the Psychotherapy services I provide. If the concept of Psychotherapy is unfamiliar to you but you feel you would like to try something new, as all else has failed to help you, please call me and find out if face to face, a group or Skype Psychotherapy may be right for you.
