Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, Counsellor and EMDR practitioner based in Whitstable and via Skype
My name is Ann-Louise McCarthy and I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Counsellor registered with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). I am also a member of CPJA (Council for Psychoanalytic and Jungian Analysts).
I am a Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor with a Private Practice based in Whitstable which is easily accessible from Herne Bay and Faversham.
I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment where we can explore issues and acknowledge psychological pain which may have been present throughout your life, or that may have developed over time in response to difficult life experiences and relationships. The aim of our work together is to identify, better understand and work through the issues that are impacting negatively on your life, to allow positive change to occur.
I provide one-to-one Psychotherapy with both adults and adolescents, as well as facilitating couples therapy and workplace consultations. One to one and couples therapy can be on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period. Workplace consultation agreements can be facilitated to meet the needs of the organization.
It can be difficult to take the first steps towards starting therapy. You may be unsure what to expect, wonder whether you will feel safe or be uncertain about what will be expected of you in sessions. I am always happy to answer any questions you have to allow you to feel comfortable and to give you a sense of what therapy may be like and what to expect. I welcome this opportunity because I want you to feel comfortable so you will take the steps needed to experience therapy. An initial assessment appointment, which takes place at the beginning of a period of therapy, is also an opportunity for you to find out more about what therapy will be like and to ask any questions you may have.
I have experience in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with :
as well as other problems and difficulties. I am always willing to discuss the therapy I offer so you are able to make an informed decision whether working with me feels comfortable and appropriate for you.
if you feel it might be helpful to speak to a Psychotherapist or Counsellor about any concern, my Psychotherapy and Counselling practice is based in Whitstable, within easy reach of Herne Bay, Faversham, Canterbury, Swale, Medway and Thanet, as well as being just over an hour from London.
The Psychotherapy and Counselling practice is within a 25 minute walk from Whitstable train station.
Herne Bay is 10 minutes away by car and there are bus links very close to the practice. Faversham is 15 minutes away by car. Canterbury is 20-25 minutes away by car and there are very good bus links close to the practice. Thanet areas are approximately a half hour car journey from the practice.
The therapy room has disabled access as it is on the ground floor. Access to the building is flat and there is ample parking directly outside or very close to the practice, on the road.
I provide Skype Psychotherapy which is available to clients in any area including outside the U.K. Skype Psychotherapy may be a beneficial option for clients who are unable to attend sessions in person due to work or travel commitments or if illness or disability prevents mobility. It may also be that confidentiality is a particular area of concern in relation to attending sessions. I am happy to discuss the Skype Psychotherapy service and how it would work if you are uncertain about any aspect of the service.
I have completed Part 1 and Part 2 EMDR training and am presently accepting clients on the basis that I have yet to complete part 3 training which will be completed by December 2019. If you are interested in EMDR treatment, please contact me to discuss reduced rates while I am in training.
I am happy to discuss, without obligation, the Psychotherapy services I provide. If the concept of Psychotherapy is unfamiliar to you but you feel you would like to try something new, as all else has failed to help you, please call me and find out if face to face, a group or Skype Psychotherapy may be right for you.
